VEHICLE DESCRIPTION & HISTORY
Styled by legendary designer Giorgetto Giugiaro when he was only 19 years old – and as an employee of the Bertone studio – the original Alfa Romeo GT Junior became one of the most desirable cars of the late Sixties and early Seventies, evolving into the 1750 and 1750 GTV models from 1967 to 1971. The most notable restyle for the 1750GTV was that the design lost the ‘step nose’ but gained the twin headlights and a larger, more powerful evolution of the legendary Alfa Twin Cam engine.
Desirable when new, they’re hugely collectable today with a very strong following across the UK and Europe, thanks in no small part to their delicate styling and agile dynamics, which feel incredibly modern for cars of the era.
RMW50H was purchased by only it’s 4th owner in 2006. He had the car stripped to the bare shell and fully rebuilt for classic rallying by the Alfa Workshop. The owner was a member of ‘Ecurie Cod Fillet’ and the car was used for events at home and abroad.
Ecurie Cod Fillet was created in 1955 by Roy Fidler and John Hopwood. They were stalwarts of the Stockport Motor Club and had both gained a reputation for winning rallies. By trade, Roy was a fish merchant and that quickly led to his earning the nickname “King Cod‟. He and John even won a Stockport daylight rally driving the company fish van, a VW Transporter, when his Triumph Herald rally car was not fit for use.
In a dig at all the Squadras and Ecuries of the day, the pair began to enter and compete under the title Ecurie Cod Fillet. The ECF badge depicting a filleted cod emanates from this period and was soon to be seen on the cars of many other top competitors.
ECF was, and still is, an invitation-only club and it became quite an honour to be asked to become a member.
RMW50H still proudly displays the ECF badge on her windscreen.
Current and 5th owner purchased the car in 2016 when the previous owner decided to build an Aston Martin for HERO style events!
In current ownership the car has been used infrequently due to time constraints and work commitments. It has just benefitted from a full engine rebuild (see details in drop down below) and is ready to be enjoyed.
